,Look what we got in the mail!!! Don't you just love it, when you get some HaPpY Mail? Our Retailer Sample Kit from Prairie Colors has arrived, and I can't wait to dip my paintbrush in and begin playing! I guess since I am featuring a new to me paint, I should add a disclaimer before getting started. I received Prairie Colors to try for my own personal use and was in no way compensated for this opinion and all reviews on this product are solely mine. For more information, visit our disclosure page here. We are trying out Prairie Colors to see if we want to become retailers. We have been looking for the perfect fit for Shell's Vintage Charm and I do believe we may have found what we have been waiting for. Anyway lets get to painting.and give this paint a test run. I have the perfect chair, that has been hanging out way too long in Prince Charming's shop. Love all the colors, but that turquoise color, Cobalt Blue, is calling my name. The colors of the paint are so fun and insprired by America's Heartland. I mean...HELLO... colors with names like Ten Miles In The Snow, Indian Paintbrush, Barn Red, Amber Waves, Weathered Fence, and Fresh Butter... need I say more? Those colors speak right straight to this country girls, heart. Well yeah....there is all the good technical reasoning...like extremely low VOC. Which means, I can paint with it in my studio (air conditioning) instead of Prince Charming's shop (no air conditioning) because there isn't any stinky, headache causing fumes (Don't judge...I live in Oklahoma and it has been HOT with the usual summertime temps). It dries to a durable finish. (Really? Are they sure?) Which means no finishing products needed if you so choose. If you do choose to add a finishing touch they have that available too, from waxes to tuff coat. So the picture below is where I am just getting started... I can tell you, as I was trying to push this paint to the limits to see how the coverage would be....I did very minimal prep work and I am a believer that prep work is the key to good work. I did very little and I stress very little sanding to knock off some of the shine and give it a little bit of tooth. I also left spots of shine on (remember it was a test). I was astounded by the coverage of the paint. A little into my testing stage and I am quiet impressed. As I was paintiing the coverage was so good that I couldn't tell where I had prepped and where I hadn't. This is amazing paint. American craftmanship at it's finest. Did I mention that the paint is made right here in the United States? Another awesome point in it's favor. So being extremely impressed with the coverage and how easy the paint is to work with I finished up with my painting, as shown below. I did give it two coats, mainly because I am planing on putting the chair up for sale and unsure what it may be used for. So finishing up the two coats of paint. I went in for lunch to let it dry good before doing some distress work. Upon returning and everything dry, again this paint had another wow factor. I loved the finish!!! There was no chalky dry look like most chalk type paints, just a soft matte. I mean I was a tad bit skeptical when I read the no finishing product required, but they mean it when they say it!!! Now I have to make the decision, do I want to leave it as is and call it done, or go ahead and do my distressing, as planned. In the end....I did do some distressing because I am just a girl that prefers the worn and loved look. After sanding it for the look, I was going for, I was still in awe of the finish. So I now the decision of do I put clear wax on it or a tuff coat? At the moment, as I am still in the testing phase... You guessed it! .It doesn't have any finishing project on it. It is sitting in my studio and I have piled things on top of it, scooted it around. The finish is still as it was when I finished it. I will probably put clear wax on it before, listing it up for sale, again just because of the unknow factor of the buyer. So my overall opinion of Prairie Colors is if you haven't guessed by now....I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it, and I may be painting everything in sight!!!! I am loving it so much that I will share with you first..... (insert drum roll) that we are now happy to report that we are now a Retailer for Prairie Colors. I am so excited to have finally found the paint that is a perfect match for us from everything to the color choices, the representation of America's Heartland, to the visions and values of Prairie Colors. We are excited about the growth of adding this paint line and looking forward to sharing more with you in the very near future.
